18,859. Peat, J. B. Aug. 21. Check valves.-Relates to angular check valves for high-speed blowing-engines and compressors, and for other purposes. The check valve 2, Fig. 1, works loosely between the seating and a fixed guard 3, and is guided solely by a spring 4. The spring bears within a central corrugation of the valve, which is also curved at the edges 13 so as to prevent sticking by reason of dirt or oil on the valve seats. The spring is received in a flared groove 12 in the valve guard, but the groove may be approximately parallel so as to give greater support to the spring. When the valve is not designed to work vertically, the guard is placed eccentrically to the valve seating so that the spring can support the weight of the valve and place it centrally on the seating. Two or more valves may be arranged concentrically, as shown in Fig. 6.
