Trestles.-Folding trestles, stands, or the like having crossed legs 1, 3 are constructed with members 4 pivoted to the legs 1 and resting at their lower ends on the legs 3. In the form shown in Fig. 2 as applied to a chair, the lower end of a back member 4 is connected to the leg 3 by a link 11. A cross-bar 9 acts as a stop to support the back 4 on the leg 3. Cross-rails are also employed at 6, 7, and 8. The chair may be locked in open position by means of a bolt passed through boles. The parts are so proportioned that the sum of the distances 12 to 5 and 5 to 2 is equal to the sum of the distances 12 to 13 and 13 to 2. The seat comprises a seat frame 14 and canvas 16, and is of the construction described in Specification No. 24,285, A.D. 1906, [Abridgment Class Furniture &c.]. In a modification, Fig. 6, the back 4 is connected to the links 11 by means of intermediate short links 18. A rail 17 connects the links 11 and rests on the legs 3, and it may also form a support for the bar 9 so that two positions of the back may be obtained. Fig. 8 illustrates the application of the invention as a trestle (full lines) and as a table (broken lines).
