Hand-trucks; vans; bodies; rest-bars.-In order to avoid handling bread, confectionery, &c. during delivery, a hand or horse van is constructed with a series of drawers of various sizes to fit different classes of goods, which may be arranged side by side in several tiers and one or more end to end, full drawers being either emptied at once by the customer or empty drawers from a previous delivery returned. Fig. 1 shows a hand-van having three tiers of drawers separated by fixed or sliding frames B, the drawers being pulled out at the front by means of handles or slots G ; but they may be arranged so as to draw out at either or both ends. Drawers or tins small enough to hold a single loaf may be used. The front of the van is provided with a slide C having cross battens F, which remain opposite the shelves B when the slide is secured in its upper position by a spring catch D, but close up the openings G when the slide is lowered, thus keeping out dust. A revolving or other shutter may, however, be used. The slide may be kept in its closed position by a lock or latch. The van has preferably an iron leg J both at the back and front. Larger vans, or those occasionally used for other purposes, are provided with a closed floor instead of the open one shown.
