Shorthand, teaching.-A device for teaching shorthand consists of a circular board c or the like fixed on a frame and having a split pin e at the centre, about which models of full and half length consonants can be turned. The circular board c is surrounded by a piece b having a circular hole slightly larger than the board c, and in the groove d thus formed, a quadrant consonant form m can be moved to any position. The remaining consonant forms h are furnished with holes h1 having slit sides, so that they fit stiffly on the centre pin e. The vowel, diphthong, and contraction forms are mounted on an attachment pivoted to the consonants, so that they can be swung just clear of the latter when in use, or in front or behind the same when not required. A circle f and radial lines are drawn upon the circular piece c. The parts of the appliance may be coloured in any manner.
