Operating sliding doors. - In apparatus for preventing the cage of a lift from starting when any door of the well is open, and the opening of any door when the cage is in motion or any other door is open, means are provided whereby any open door may be closed from the motor room without ascending to the floor. When any door D is open, a rack F upon it gears with a pinion H on a vertical shaft G. The door may be closed from the motor room by operating a rack K meshing with a pinion J2 on a shaft J1 geared to the shaft G. In a modification for vertically-sliding doors, each door carries a projecting antifriction roll adapted to engage between screw threads formed on the shaft G.
