Platelayers' tools.-An appliance for extracting trenails after the spikes have been withdrawn comprises a metal shank having at the lower end tapering twisted parts the edges of which are bevelled off at an angle of thirty degrees and is g r o o v e d as shown in Fig. 5. The sharp rear edge projects beyond the forward edge to enable the tool, after boring into the trenail, to obtain a firm grip. A hollow cylindrical head at the top receives a wooden handle, and a circular opening is provided in the middle through which a crowbar may be inserted to be used as a lever in conjunction with the rail for loosening a tightlyfixed trenail.
