Platelayers' tools.- A tool for extracting trenails and spikes from railway sleepers comprises two pivoted members 1, 2, Fig. 1, having jaws near the pivot 3 provided with semicircular r e c e s s e s having their edges grooved and bevelled upwards at an angle of about 82 degrees, as shown in Fig. 4, for engaging the spike &c. head, a screw 4 working through the extremity of one member and journaled in a slot 5 in the extremity of the other member for gripping the jaws on the object, and an eye 6 in one of the members near the pivot adapted to receive a crowbar for levering out the spike, using the running rail as a fulcrum.
