Track apparatus for stopping trains.-The brake valve and regulator are operated by the piston 7 of a cylinder 6, to which steam is admitted when a pivoted lever on the locomotive is rocked by engagement with a track obstacle, thereby energizing an electro-magnet 18 and opening the valve 17. Steam enters the cylinder 6 through a slide valve, which is moved by the plate 9 on the piston rod engaging stops 14, 15 on the slide-valve rod. By this means, after the piston has reached its end position, it is automatically replaced, and a projection 16 engages a jointed end piece on the handle of the valve 17 and closes it. The driver's valves are actuated by pins on the side of the plate 9 and are left free for re-starting the train after stoppage by the apparatus.
