Filters; filters with horizontal filtering partitions or layers.-A vat or tank for treatment of tin or terne scruff, skimmings, &c., has at one end a well C communicating with the interior of the vat through a filter b in the bottom of the vat. This well is provided with a tap through which the solution may be drawn off and, if necessary, returned to the vat. The filter bed is formed by a series of battens resting on crossing rafters b1, which are supported on bricks b2 placed on the bottom of the vat, the spaces between the rafters being filled with small coke or anthracite coal.
