Spindle apparatus.- The mandrels of cap spinning and twisting machines, rigidly secured to the wharls in the usual manner, are provided with a series of straight or helical sawcuts, so that a number of equidistant tongues are formed, which tend to expand owing to centrifugal force and engage the bobbin or spool on the mandrel. As shown in Fig. 2, three tongues a1 are formed in the mandrel a, the end of the tongues projecting into a recess b1 in the wharl and so limiting the extent to which they can move outwards. The tongues need not be severed at their bottom ends.
