Improvements in Machinery for Forming Yarns or Threads into Warps or like Assemblages of Yarn or Threads and Machinery for Winding Warps and like Assemblages of Yarns or Threads.
25,843. Leach, A. Nov. 9. Warps, balling.-A warp-balling machine is so arranged that two or more balls of different sizes may be wound simultaneously. The balls are rotated by surface contact with a winding- drum a, Fig. 2, the spindles 9 being mounted in pivoted frames u adapted to swing independentlv of one another. The yarns are led to the balls by guides e mounted on a slide f, Fig. 1, which is driven from a crank-disk s by connexions q, l, j, so arranged that the travel of the slide f can be varied to form balls of different lengths. Additional arms may be provided to enable the machine to wind a ball on a spindle which occupies the whole, or nearly the whole, of the length of the winding-drum a. Various arrangements are described for removably securing the spindles 9 in recesses in the arms u and for removably securing the arms u upon one or more rods y adjustable on brackets 1. Each guide e comprises parts 19, 20, Figs. 3 and 4, with curved arms, and inclined parts 23 adjustable on the part 20 by means of screws 24. Between the parts 19, 20, there is a fixed or adjustable curved bar 26, beneath which the yarns pass. When the machine is so. arranged that the yarns pass directly to the upper parts of the balls being wound, each of the guides c is arranged as shown in Figs. 15 and 16, and consists of a part 42, having curved faces 43, and of vertically-adjustable parts 45, 45a. The yarns pass under the part 45a and over the part 45, which has a depression 83 in its upper edge. Automatic or other means may be employed for changing the speed of the winding-drum relatively to that of the rollers by which the yarns are delivered to the winding-spindles.
