28,170. Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning. Dec. 24, 1908, [Convention date]. [Addition to 16,584/07.] Indigoid dyes.-Vat dyes are obtained by treating with a halogen or halogenizing-agent the condensation products obtained by condensing 6- or 5- amino-3-oxy-1-thionaphthene, or 4- or 5-acetaminophenyl-2- thioglycollic-1-carboxylic acid, with isatin or its homologues or derivatives, or alpha-isatinanilide, the reduced or non-reduced condensation products obtained from 6-amino-3-oxy-1-thionaphthene and nitroisatin or its acetyl derivative,.and that from 6-amino-3-oxy-1-thionaphthene and aminodioxindol according to Specification 17,265/09, being excepted from such treatment. When the acetyl derivatives are used, the acetyl group is removed by the halogenization process. According to examples the products obtained from 4-acetaminophenyl-2-thioglycollic-1-carboxylic acid and isatin, dibromisatin, or alpha-isatinanilide, and from 5-acetaminophenyl-2- thioglycollic-1-carboxylic acid and isatin or alpha-isatinanilide, are treated with bromine in the presence of nitrobenzene ; the bromination may also be effected. in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid. The products dye yellow-brown, brown, reddishbrown, reddish-blue, and bluish-green tints. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), refers to the process of halogenization with or without suspending agents or solvents such as water or carbon tetrachloride, and to the use of analogues of isatin. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
