Sluice gates.-The gate is connected by a number of flexible ropes to a weight rolling on a curved path, so that the leverage alters with the water pressure, and twisting of the gate is prevented. The roller is equivalent to a doublearmed lever. Each end of a roller 5 rests on a curved path 6, and is connected to the gate 1 by wire ropes 2, the two extreme positions of the apparatus being shown in Fig. 1. In a modification, the roller rests on curved paths on the bed of the stream, the gate being pivotally connected by a rod with the flexible device. The surfaces of the roller and curved path may be provided with teeth.
