Conditioning grain and seeds.-Grain, pulse, &c. which has been harvested in a damp condition, or left in a damp place, is conditioned, dried, deodorized, and disinfected by allowing it to remain for several days in contact with from 5 to 20 per cent of peat, which is afterwards separated. The peat is preferably freed from chalky, earthy, or sandy matter, washed with ordinary or rain water, and dried. The peat may be used repeatedly if regenerated by exposing in the open air and stirring. Suitable distributors and bolters may be employed for mixing and separating the materials, and the mixture may be stirred.
