Stanchions for guardrails for ships, platforms, &c. are formed of two stamped portions a, which are connected together by ferrules e inserted in holes formed in the stamped portions, the edges of the ferrules being clinched as shown at e1. The guard-rails are passed through the ferrules. The members a are flanged at the bottom, and the flanges are riveted together to form the foot of the stanchion.
