Conveying from working face in mines.- Shoots or gutters employed in inclined workings in mines for conveying material by gravity to the haulage roads are provided with baffles to check the descent where the inclination is excessive. The baffles may be either suspended above the trough, or attached to the bottom of the trough, or may be formed by corrugating the trough. Means may be provided for adjusting, the inclination of the baffle - plates. Figs. 4 and 5 show an apparatus in which the inclination of a series of pivotally mounted baffles B3 are extended outside the trough, and carry levers C connected together by cords D. The two end levers of the system are connected to an operating-device such as a cord E passed round head and tail pulleys G, which may be adjusted by a band-wheel G1.
