Ammonium sulphate. - In the recovery of ammonia from hot distillation gases, after tho extraction of tar, the gases are passed into a saturator, the temperature of the gases being such, that it is unnecessary to add to the gases extraneous heat or, extraneous gases for preventing the condensation of water vapour. The saturator is preferably double or multiple, the ammonia being partly removed by the formation of ammonium sulphate in the first or lowest of the series, and the remainder of the ammonia being recovered in an upper vessel or series of vessels.
