Levelling-heads. - Comprises a fitting for obtaining a rapid adjustment of a level, theodolite &c. in which two or more tapered annular plates, which can be rotated with respect to each other, are used. The upper portion consists of turned parts a, b attached to the instrument by the screw a1, and is connected to the lower portion c by the fitting d having rounded faces d1, d2, constituting a double ball-joint. Two tapered annular or quick-setting plates f, g are fitted between the portions b, c, and provided with handles f1, g1. To level the instrument, the handles f1, g1 are turned relatively to one another, and, when in position, are clamped by the screw-ring h. In a modification, the intermediate fitting d is dispensed with, and guide-pins are fitted so that a plumb-line may be used as in a theodolite.
