Shuttles, changing bobbins and the like in, automatically; change-box motions.-In looms provided with a Hollingworth & Knowles head motion, comprising upper and lower cylinder gear shafts 4, 6, Fig. 5, carrying the cylinder gears 3, 5 and also the gears 7, 8 for operating the vibrator gears 15 and levers 14 for controlling the shuttle boxes, special vibrator levers 14a and gears 15a actuated from cylinder gears 26, 27, which are driven by differential gearing at half the speed of the gears 7, 8, are used to give a rocking movement to the rotary magazine so as to place a bobbin of the required colour beneath the transferrer. The levers 14a are connected through a compound-lever arrangement, a chain, and a spring-controlled rod to a lever, which raises and lowers a rod carrying a worm gearing with a worm-wheel on the rotary magazine. The cylinder gears 26, 27 are provided with bevel-wheels 24, which gear with bevel-wheels'23 fast on the shafts 4, 6 and also with the bevel-wheels 28, which have extensions screwed to the frame 2. A gear 36, Fig. 3, on the harness pattern-cylinder shaft 35 is driven from the lower cylinder gear shaft through a reversing arrangement operated by a sliding key, which has an engaging knob 19 and an annular groove to receive a collar provided with studs 201 entering open-end slots in the upper forked end 212 of a reversing-lever 21. A shield 37 on the gear-wheel 36 prevents the lever 21 from being moved until one of a series of notches 371 on the shield comes opposite an extension 21a of the lever 21, this occurring only every other pick. The gear 36 drives through spur gearing a pin-wheel operating a star-wheel fast on a sleeve carrying the pattern cylinder for the box and magazine, which is thus driven at half the speed of the harness pattern cylinder fast on the shaft 35.
