18,445. Seifert, F. Aug. 4. Venetian and lath blinds are released automatically on opening the window, to fall and cover the window aperture. The blind-cord b is pressed against a plate a of the cord-holder, by a roller c mounted in inclined slots and carrying dependent arms d, to which is attached a roller e. On opening the window, a cam piece i engages and depresses the roller e, thereby releasing the roller c from the cord b, and allowing the blind to fall. The window may be opened without effecting the fall of the blind, by folding up the arms d and roller e, which are thrown down to the normal position on closing the window, by a spring k having a bent end l, which, during the opening movement of the window, is able to pass and engage behind one of the arms d. Holes are made in the wall adjacent to the cord holder to receive the cam i and spring k, so as not to interfere with the opening of the window. For sliding sashes, a spring s is secured on the upper sash to engage and depress the roller e, the arms d being held in the upturned position by hand and being thrown down when released by a spring u.
