[Cognate Applications, 24,941/10 and 28,899/10.] Moulds ; pressing plungers and dies.-In presses for compressing powder or pulp into solid blocks and expressing the water therefrom, the plunger is formed of co-axial cylindrical portions, and the cylinder of metal rings fitting closely together. In the form shown, the head c of the plunger is made up of rings h1, the upper part b of the plunger being grooved to facilitate the escape of liquid. The bottom c' of the cylinder is also formed of rings. The rings a, a' of which the cylinder is built up are made in halves arranged so as to break joint. Modifications are discribed in which the plunger is made of a single piece spirally coiled, and the cylinder of a single piece helically coiled.
