Rotary-chamber apparatus; materials descending by gravity.-Fermented tea-leaf is subjected to an air-blast at atmospheric temperature till dry enough to prevent stewing, and is then heated in a closed cylinder or machine at 200‹ F., and either re-dried in the same machine or passed through a cylindrical sifter or otherwise finished. The drying-cylinder may be rotary and slightly inclined, its entrance end being partly closed and its exit end open to the atmosphere. A vertical cylinder having top and bottom doors may also be used, a feeding-grid being provided at the top and both doors not being open at the same time; the leaf falls through the heated air in the cylinder. In both forms of apparatus, the cylinder is externally heated by a furnace. According to the Provisional Specification, the preliminary air blast may be omitted.
