Catches, spring.-In fastenings for sliding vehicle wiridows, comprising pawls carried by a spindle on the garnish rail 1 and racks on the sash stile 12, the spindle 6 is mounted in bearing-plates 4 within an inverted U-shaped casing 2, and triangular pawls 7 are held in contact with the racks 11 by spiral springs carried on the spindle 6. The pawls are released by a strap or a handle 9 connected to the spindle by an eye-bolt 14 passing through a vertical slot in the casing, the lower ends of the pawls bearing on the racks and preventing the sash from falling too rapidly. According to a modification described in the Provisional Specification, a pivoted spring catch mounted centrally on the garnish rail engages a rack secured centrally on the sash.
