Dynamos and motors combined f o r transmitting power. - One of the rotating members of an electromagnetic clutch, for example, that coupled to the d r i v e n shaft, consists of an armature b, the short-circuited conductors c of which are cut by the fluxes of two field systems, one being a direct-current field-magnet a coupled to the driving-shaft and forming the other member of the clutch, and the other being a rotating-field system excited by polyphase currents supplied from an outside source to a stationary ring d. The currents produced in the conductors c, owing to the generator action of the field-magnet a, set up a motoring action with the field of the stationary member d. The armature b may have either two separate cores or a common core.
