[Cognate Application, 9589/11.] Wire-strainers.-The device consists of a bracket 1, slotted vertically and provided with arms 2, 3, 4 extending along the face of the fence post, the central arm 2 being adapted to carry a loosely-fitting clamping-member 14 provided with a screw 16 as shown in Fig. 4. Within the slot 17 of the bracket are mounted upper and lower members 8, 9 and 6, 7 adapted to extend on either side of the bracket. The upper members are provided with a number of tapped holes 10 to receive clamping - screws 12, and the lower members with recesses 13 to receive the fulcrum of the straining-lever. Pivoted within the recess is a weighted retaining-pawl 19 gripping the wire between it and the underside of the top arm. A guide 20 working between pins 22 is provided to keep the wire in position. The straining-lever is T-shaped, the longer arm 24 forming the handle and the other arm 23 being, recessed to carry a pin 26, serving as the fulcrum, and a wire-retaining pawl 29 as shown in Fig. 3. In cases where the wire is passed through a hole in the standard, the arm 31, formed with slots 32, is made detachable, and is secured to the central arm 2, the lever being mounted as shown in Fig. 10. The retaining- pawl 38 is mounted so as to be secured to the fence post by screws or the like.
