A New or Improved Teeth-setting Machine for Band-, Feet- and the like Saws.

Saws, setting.-The saw is supported between a fixed jaw plate a and a pivoted jaw plate c by a vertically-adjustable grooved piece e, and the teeth are set by V-shaped projections on a plate s carried by a cross arm t on rocking lever q pivoted on the plate a. The movement of the lever q is limited by the engagement of adjustable screws u on its cross-arm t with bosses v on the plates a, c. Each time the lever q is rocked, a cam-surface w on the lever engages a roller x on a lever y pivoted to a bracket 1 on the plate a, and, by means of a pawl 2, moves the saw forward one or two teeth at a time. The lever y is returned by a spring 3 against a stop 5, which can be adjusted to correspond with the pitch of the saw teeth. The saw is pressed down on the grooved piece c by springs 7, 8. The pivoted jaw plate c is secured to the plate a by a pivoted bolt l and nut u, adjusted so that, while gripping the saw blade, the blade is allowed to move longitudinally on the application of a moderate force. When the plates are in position, a set-screw p on the plate c is adjusted to bear on the plate a so that the plates may be secured together subsequently without loss of time. The teeth of a circular saw may be set by pivoting the plate c to the bottom of the plate a and mounting the saw on a vertically-adjustable mandrel or stud. In modified forms of the apparatus, the cam-surface w may be apex downwards and the screws u carried by the bosses v.
