Magnetos, driving.- A dynamo for lighting cycles or motor-vehicles is pivotally mounted so that, above a certain speed, the friction driv ing-wheel, normally pressed against a road wheel or the engine fly wheel, is separated therefrom by a centrifugal device. The field magnets c are mounted by ball bearings on a fixed pin g, provided with an arm n, between which and a bracket o on the magnets is a spring m, arranged to keep the friction wheel j against the road wheel k. Mounted on the spindle a is a centrifugal device p, adapted, by means of a grooved sliding collar q, to rock a lever s, pivoted to a bracket t. The lever s is bevelled at u, and bears against a face v on the fixed arm n, so as to cause the machine to rock on its pivot as the speed increases. An arm w on the lever s connects the lighting circuit with either an accumulator or the dynamo by means of contacts x, y respectively. The wheel j consists of a series of leather, raw hide, and fibre disks, and may be arranged to bear on the engine fly-wheel. A double-pole two-way switch may be used to connect the lighting or ignition circuits to the dynamo or accumulator.
