Fire-bridges. - In apparatus for regulating the supply of air for smoke-consumption, of the type in which the air space behind the firebridge is regulated by a vertical damper or plate operated by a rod extending to the front of the furnace, the damper b moves over a slotted base-plate d on the hollow fire-bridge, a flange t covering the portion of the slot to the rear of the damper. Air from the ash-pit passes up through the slot to the space between a front plate c and the damper. The plate c may be perforated at its upper part, and either or both of the plates b, c may be curved to form a contracted mouth to the air passage.
