An Apparatus for Automatic Supply of Gas Intended to Furnish Hot and Cold Water at any Distance, and at Will, for Domestic Use of any kind, Baths and Wherever it may be Necessary, by Using only One Cock and One Conduit.
4618. Nicoud, J. D. Feb. 23. Valves controlled from a distance.-Gasvalves for water-heaters are arranged to be opened when the water-cock is partly opened, the gas-supply valve being closed when the water-cock is closed or fully opened. The device is arranged as shown in Fig. 1. When the water-supply tap of the geyser is partly turned on, the water pressure above the piston 11 is reduced, and the piston and spindle 14 attached thereto are lifted. Pistons 12, 13 are also attached to the spindle 14, and normally close the passages 4, 5 leading to the gas-valve operating-piston 22, 25. When the spindle lifts, as described above, part of the water under pressure which enters the inlet 3 is free to pass to the piston 22, 25, which lifts and opens the gas-valve 19 of the burners through a rod 21. If the water-supply tap is fully opened, the disk 11 lifts the spindle sufficiently ''to cause the piston 13 to close the passage 4 from beneath, and stop the supply of pressure water to the gas-valve operating-piston, which drops, the gas-valve then closing. The water is discharged through the passage 16, which also serves to allow the escape of any leakage past the valve 12 through the passage 26 when the valves are closed.
