Gravity, adjusting centre of. - The centre of gravity of a connecting-rod n is standardized by comparison with a known rod tested previously on the same machine, the rod being supported at its ends by means of mandrels l, m and links i, d from a pivoted beam c carrying adjustable counterbalance weights j, k and from a nut g adjustable along a screw f on the main frame. Knifeedges on the mandrels are so placed that the rods are supported from the centres of the mandrels.
