5483. Jacques, A. W. March 5. Adjusting for wear.-A bearing for the connecting- rods of engines &c. is adjusted automatically to take up wear by a spring. The spring d surrounds and tends to rotate a rod b, formed at one end with a coarse thread engaging a fixed nut c. The end of the rod b bears against a tapered block e, which separates two blocks f sliding on inclines on the body of the connecting-rod and thus advances the bearing- brass g.
