Tools for setting-out work.-In a measuring- rule for the use of coal miners, timber-men, and others, comprising two relatively-slidable graduated laths or battens a, b, each carrying a guide embracing the other, the lath a is provided at one end with a steel point or scriber f and at the other with a bent spring d for retaining the laths in any position to which they are set. The guides c, c1 are secured by screws i and are also provided with inturned serrated edges which are embedded in the lath surfaces.
