Vessels for carrying ships.-Comprises improvements in vessels adapted to receive submarines and similar craft, whereby they may be employed for salving, assisting, transporting, careening, raising, and pressure-testing submarines. The vessels are constructed with a double shell, the inner one B being in the shape of a cylindrical tank, and the outer shell A of the normal form except towards the stern where it is in two portions, with a space between. Double bottoms are fitted as shown by which the draught is varied. The door H at the after end of the chamber B is lenticular in shape and adapted to be ballasted. The door is provided with pivots 0 and is placed in position as in Fig. 4 and then turned through a right angle so that the pivots are horizontal. It may afterwards be rotated against the ring I, effecting a watertight closure. A bridge-face opens the space between the two portions of the stern of the vessel, upon which is situated the lifting-means whereby the submarines are introduced into the tank B or raised partly out of the water for inspection. The cylindrical tank B when closed by the door H may be utilized for pressure tests upon submarines.
