Meteorological conditions, local, apparatus for influencing.-Apparatus for protecting orchards, hop fields, and other plantations from frosts by the generation of heat and smoke comprises an open burner and a closed reservoir connected and arranged so that liquid fuel may be maintained at a constant level in the open burner, which is provided with means for regulating the air supply. The reservoir 1 is provided with an airtight cover or a stoppered filling- orifice 2, and is connected to the burner 5 by a pipe 3 fitted with a tap 4. The vessel 5 is provided with air holes 6 near its open end and with brackets 7 supporting a perforated cone 8, around which combustion takes place. The air supply may be regulated by partly or completely closing the apertures in the cone 8 by turning an inner perforated cone 11, Fig. 2, or inserting an imperforated cone 16, Fig. 3. The projecting handle 13 of the cone 11 is hinged so as to fold under a cover 15. The reservoir 1 may be dispensed with. According to the Provisional Specification, a tapering ring may be attached to uprights on the upper edge of the burner, and cylinders may be used instead of cones.
