Ecraseurs; castrating-appliances; tonsilotomes and like instruments; obstetric and uterine appliances. - In ecraseurs, castrating, hernia, ovariotomy, nasal, or other instruments in which a snare is contracted about the part to be removed, or in which one jaw is slid towards the other, the movable jaw 21 or the chain or other snare 14 is connected to a ratchet bar 2 which is drawn downwards in a tube 1 by the repeated engagement of a spring-pressed pawl 10 as a lever 8 is repeatedly pressed to the handle 6 against a spring 9. Upward motion is prevented by a detent which engages the same or another set of ratchet teeth, but which may be disengaged by pressure on an exterior knob.
