Actuating; locking.-A revivifying salt solution is discharged from a zeolite bed e1 through a pipe g, pivoted pipe b, and a chamber a provided with a float valve a' to maintain a constant head of liquid over a discharge nipple a2 and thus secure a uniform flow. When the level of the salt solution has fallen to that of the top of the bed, discharge through the pipe b ceases, and the chamber a begins to empty and is lifted to the position shown in dotted lines by a spring or counterweight c at the other end of the pipe b. A valve h connected to the pipe b is opened, and fresh water is supplied through the pipe h1 to the chamber e. When the liquid level in the chamber e has risen sufficiently, discharge to the chamber a begins again, the counterweight is overbalanced, and the valve h is closed. The rinsing-water is passed slowly away from the chamber e through the chamber a in the same manner as was the salt solution. When the level in the chamber e falls, fresh water is again admitted through the valve h. A second fall of the chamber a from the position shown by dotted lines is prevented by a pawl arrangement working in connexion with a ratchet-wheel on the pivot of the tube b, and the wash water is this time allowed to flow away freely through the pipe g.
