摘要
1343. Datta, G. July 3, 1912, [Convention date]. Stiffeners.-A machine for covering wire with fibres, such as asbestos, flax, hemp, jute, and wool, the fibres being laid parallel to the core and secured by being pressed on to an adhesive coating, is provided with a drawing-device consisting of pairs of rollers driven at different circumferential speeds by gearing in train with the wire-traversing gear so as to stretch the fibres before placing them on the wire. As shown in Fig. 1, the fibre u is supplied to the drawing-rolls I, I1, II, II1, III, III1, the bottom members of which are driven from the main drive through gears W, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 6, and 70; and the sliver falls on to the wire after passing the coating - wheel q. After passing the press R, it goes through other coating-devices S, U and presses T, V, and is then wound on the drum C. The presses consist of rotating disks, as shown in Fig. 5, carrying spring fingers or blades 4, 6; or in the case of polygonal wires, the rotating disk carries radially spring-pressed fingers 4, 41, 411, 4111, having heads 5, as shown in Fig. 6, which bear against the wire so as to press the fibre on to the wire.
