12,937. Mark, C. June 4. Stamping; cupping; tube-expanders; shearing; shear-blades.-Tees, crosses, elbows, &c. for pipes are made from tubular blanks by reducing the ends by end compression, thus leaving a bulge of the length required to be fashioned to the desired form. For making a tee, the ends of the blank 1, Fig. 1, are inserted in dies 2, Fig. 5, and 7, Fig. 4, which are then approached, thus reducing the end 11. The reduced end 11 is inserted in the die 13, Fig. 6, and the die 7 again applied, giving the form 12, Figs. 1 and 2. This, while internally supported by a mandrel, is flattened between dies 19 to produce one lateral bulge 21, which is drilled and finally opened out by a die 24, Fig. 15, while supported by internal mandrels and a block 23, Fig. 16. The ends may be cut off square by a cutter 31, Fig. 26, while supported by a mandrel 30, Fig. 23, and block 28. If it is desired to make a cross, the dies are designed to reduce the ends concentrically, so that, on flattening, two lateral projections 21 are formed. If desired, the blanks after flattening may be trued by simultaneously inserting a pair of mandrels 82, Figs. 21 and 22, the pivoted ends 83 of which coact.
