Obstetric appliances. -Apparatus for closing a n d disinfecting t h e umbilical cord of foals comprises two blocks a of wood &c. clamped together by means of bolts b and wing - nuts c, and bevelled at the upper inner edges. Layers e of a soluble disinfectant, such as a mixture of copper sulphate and gum arabic, are applied to the inner surfaces. One of the blocks has a slot to admit one of the bolts b, and can be turned about the other bolt to allow the apparatus to be applied.
