Ceilings modified to facilitate ventilation; double walls. - In a method of ventilation of the type in which hollow porous walls and ceilings are provided to withdraw foul air from and supply fresh, air to halls, restaurants, &c., a high vacuum or increased pressure is maintained as required in the hollow space. The porous surface may consi'st of a mixture of sand and a binding - medium such as flour, sulphite lye, oil, oil residues, &c., which is moulded into sheets and may be reinforced with wire fabrics. An existing hollow ceiling may be utilized, or a false ceiling 3, Fig. 1, may be supported by members 4 from a floor 2. The air in the space 10 is exhausted through a pipe 6. In a modification, thin porous ceiling plates are supported by mouldings on the lower faces of joists. Walls are constructed in a similar manner.
