Platforms and launching-ways.-Aeroplanes are launched by an endless platform which is rotated at an increasing speed. The platform comprises cables 1, running over pulleys 2 fixed to an axle 4 and over pulleys 3 loose on an axle 5, and crosslaths 6 secured to the cables. The platform is tensioned by the rocking of the support of the axle 5, an adjustable stay 16 holding the support in position. The platform is driven by power applied to the shaft 5 through a cable 26 which is wound upon a conical pulley 17 on the shaft 5 and unwound from an oppositely grooved conical pulley 21 on the shaft 4, so that the shaft 4 is rotated at an increasing speed. In an alternative arrangement, the acceleration of the platform is produced by means of two deeply grooved pulleys 28, 29 on the shafts 4, 5. A cable 31 is fixed to the pulley 29 and, when the shaft 5 is rotated, the rope is unwound from the pulley 28 at an increasing speed.
