Doffing-arrangements; bobbin applying apparatus; spindle apparatus; spindle rails; stop-apparatus, non-automatic.-Levers 35, carried on a rocking shaft 36 mounted in fixed bearings, are operated to move empty bobbins from a holder 31 on to the spindles of spinning, twisting, and like frames, the holders being reciprocated horizontally by means of a rack and pinion 28 to displace the bobbins from the lifter rail when the lifter rail and step rail are lowered, and to aline the empty bobbins with the spindles. The levers 35 comprise wire loops bent at the middle of their length so as to pass freely over the empty bobbins, and so spaced at their ends that, during their downward movement, they remove the coils of yarn left on the spindles in consequence of the removal of the bobbins, and, during their upward movement, they remove the empty bobbins from the holders 31. The holders are provided with wipers to remove oil from the bottoms of the spindles, and, when long bobbins are used, are pivoted so as to pass freely beneath the footstep rail when removed from the front of the machine to the position shown in Fig. 1 after being charged with empty bobbins. The full bobbins are displaced into a receptacle 33 provided with movable and stationary blades.39, 40, which, when the frame is restarted, sever the threads. The step rail 9 is lowered by means of chains operated by a shaft 22, and the lifter rail 13 is lowered beyond the normal limit to effect the doffing by the ordinary building.motion. The drag washers are split to facilitate charging and are carried in recesses 131 in the lifter rail. The spindles and flyers are carried in a socket in a rail 2 and are provided with disks 6, which serve to prevent the spindle from dropping during doffing and may be pressed by hand to stop the spindles for piecing. The lower ends of the spindles are supported in footstep bearings 10 in the step rail 9.
