Actuating.-Relates to a device for preventing fire in case of accidents to flying-machines, ships, and railway, road, and other vehicles, of the kind in which a pendulum suspended freely from a ball joint controls a cut-off device for the fuel supply, the device being operated by a sudden jolt of the vehicle. According to the invention, the pendulum 24 is held in its normal position by a spindle 29 engaging a cavity 33 on the lower end of the pendulum, the spindle being pressed upwards by an adjustable spring 32. One end of the spring is attached to a lever 31, the other end engaging a screw-threaded rod 35 as shown. The upward movement of the rod 29 allows the valve 27 to shut off the fuel supply when the valve-rod 28 engages the notch 30. When the valve is open, the rod 28 engages a notch 34, whereby the valve-rod is eased before moving into the closed position, to prevent sticking. The device may be adjusted by varying the position and weight of the pendulum, the friction in the ball joint, or the length of the pendulum rod.
