Lay-figure and like stands.-In connexion with dummy busts for displaying ladies' blouses &c., the part or parts not usually clothed when in use, such as the neck and bust portion a, are covered with fleshcoloured matter w h i c h dries with a matt surface and is applied by a spraying operation. The body of the stand is built up of papier mÔchÚ and the part a has further an outer covering of smooth white paper smoothed by rubbing and the addition of a coat of whitening and ordinary builders' size. After further treatment with a liquid preparation such as is used as a thinner for an enamel and known by the Trade Mark " Hermosine," the colouring - matter is applied. Instead of "Hermosine," a solution of shellac in alcohol may be used. To the part b of the stand wadding is applied which is then covered with stockingette.
