Hops; wort, hopping. - Hops are extracted in a vessel b fitted with an inverted conical sieve d, through which passes a vertical shaft f carrying a worm e and arms g. The vessel is heated by a steam or hot-water jacket c or a coil, and is provided with an outlet j in a sunk compartment p covered by a sieve k, and with a sluice outlet n for the hops. Removable perforated plates l serve to keep the hops immersed in the liquid. In operation, beer-wort or other liquid is supplied by a pipe h, and the extract is withdrawn by a pipe i. The rotation of the arms g causes the hops to pass into the sieve d, where they are compressed by the worm and discharged at the base.
