R÷ntgen-ray tubes.-A main cathode 3 is situated between an anti-cathode 4 and an incandescent or other cathode 1, by which the tube is rendered conductive. An anode 2 for the auxiliary discharge is either placed between the two cathodes or is formed by the main cathode itself. In the former case, the auxiliary anode 2 may be a platinum tube fused into the glass at both ends and arranged to be cooled; it may be connected directly to the main cathode or maintained at a lower potential than the latter. As shown, the main cathode 3 forms a perforated partition between the regions of the two discharges. Specifications 23,169/12 and 14,892/13 are referred to.
