Boats, ships, and floating and diving toys. -Boats, toy fishes, &c. with flexible or sinuous fin propelling mechanism comprise a boat portion A, Fig. 2, which has a dependent casing containing a spring motor C which drives a pin d4 on a disk d'. The pin enters and oscillates a slotted arm b5 on a pivot b3 to which also is attached a fin member B. This fin may taper in elevation, in plan, or in both, from the point of attachment b. For a toy fish, the tail part is made up of flexible and connected elements B2, Fig. 7, the pin b3 being oscillated through similar gearing, but a twisted india-rubber motor C1 is used. For larger ships, the fin is pivoted forward under the keel, and the oscillating gear operates at a position not far from the free rear end.
