摘要

An integrated mathematical model was developed to simulate the interaction of a hurricane with shallow bodies of water to predict overflow due to effects of high wind velocities and pressure gradients on the surface during passage of a hurricane. The model treats the hurricane-water configuration as a dynamic system comprised of the storm, an interface region, and the water body. Since numerical simulation is customarily carried out in polar coordinates for the hurricane and in cartesian coordinates for the body of water, the incorporation of an interface region facilitates the computation and is physically acceptable. Several simplifications were introduced to estimate the feasibility of the approach and identify the data required, including neglecting thermal effects, vertical momentum transfer, and mixing at the interface. In essence, the hurricane is assumed to be loosely coupled to the water body.
