Rearing - appliances.-Consists in a cool brooder for rearing chickens &c., comprising a casing a of wood &c. the top of which is provided with a vertically adjustable cover consisting of two or more thicknesses b of canvas, hessian, &c., the space between being filled with chaff, wood wool, &c., and the lower piece of canvas &c. sagging down to contact with the birds. The height is varied by placing the frame c carrying the canvas &c. in any of the grooves d, or by removing some of the chaff &c. from between the canvas layers. At the front is a hinged or sliding door e having an aperture f )for access tu the interior. The walls may be packed with pads of cottan-wool h, Fig. 5, carried on a wire frame i.
