Hygrometric apparatus.-A conditioning-oven for drying and testing the amount of moisture in wool, yarn, woodpulp, paper, &c. comprises a modification of the apparatus described in Specification 26,276/11. The cans f containing the material are mounted on a turntable band surround the upturned lips of holes c formed in the turntable. They are enclosed within outer cylinders d, the whole being contained within the inner wall h of the jacketed oven, which wall is connected with an inverted conical surface g, to the apex of which an air inlet j is connected. Below the conical bottom, a gas-ring &c. y may be disposed, with reflecting-plates z over it. Doors k are provided at the top of the oven, and are caused to slide apart, when a can is brought under them to be weighed, by handles m. The turntable is suspended from a hollow tube p provided with a handle at the top and containing a thermometer q. At the bottom, the tube is rotatably connected by a saddle r with a footstep bearing pivotally supported in a lever t mounted on a shaft u located across the oven and provided with an external handle w. A plate v adapted to close the openings c, is pivotally carried by the lever t. The handle w being slightly turned, the turntable is lifted from its engagement with the edge between the parts g, h of the jacket, and can be rotated by the handle on the tube p until the desired can is brought under the doors. Further movement of the handle w presses the plate v against the opening c below this can, shutting air off from the can, and presses packing n on the top of the corresponding cylinder against the oven top, so that escape of air is prevented during the weighing process.
